MONTESSORI SCHOOL OF PHUKET

WHAT IS MONTESSORI?

For more than a century, the child-focused approach that Dr. Maria Montessori developed for educating children has been transforming schools around the world.

Montessori classrooms are immediately recognizable. You will see children working independently and in groups, often with specially designed learning materials, deeply engaged in their work and respectful of others and their surroundings.

The Montessori method fosters self-motivated growth for children in all areas of their development- cognitive, emotional, social, and physical.

Our Facilities

We Are Providing an Environment for Our Students to Grow & Excel

Our aim is to bring a student-centered approach to sports environments and to bring sports to the very core of the child’s development.

Our facilities include 1 full sized football field and 3 half sized fields as well as a 25 meter swimming pool.

We offer a chaperon service free of charge for children attending after school activities such as swimming and taekwondo.

COMPASSION RESPECT INDEPENDENCE

Our Toddler Community serves children who are steadily walking and at least 12 months of age in a small and intimate group of twelve children with an AMI Montessori trained teacher and assistants. Two five-day program options are available, either half-day (8:00am- 12:00pm) or full-day (8:00am-3:00pm). The Toddler Community provides a rich learning environment that is appropriate to the young child’s needs for movement, communication, independence and self-discipline.
This is an important stage in a child’s development for communication, the adult model respectful communication, there are many opportunities throughout the day to practice the art of conversation as well as grace and courtesy.
Independence is the ability to do things for oneself. Children become independent through their own activity. By being included in simple daily activities of the environment, they begin to understand routines, their role in the community and their own abilities.
When we offer choices and the right materials at sensitive times and only lend a hand when needed, we are saying “I know you can do this by yourself”. Children gain skills, confidence and a “I can do it” attitude which they will take with them throughout life.
Through full participation in the life of the community and daily opportunities to make choices and make mistakes within a safe environment with clear limits, a child will gradually develop awareness of their behavior and become independent learners.

3-6 years
Our Montessori curriculum is designed for the active learner in mind. Our primary goal is to help each child reach his/her full potential in all areas of life. In a carefully prepared environment, we have created a comprehensive developmental program to meet the needs of each child.
Our prepared environment is characterized by order, simplicity and beauty. Our open plan indoor/outdoor environment is constantly updated to suit the needs of the children working in it. We create a prepared environment where the children are free to choose their own work within a structure and discover what truly interests them.
Some of the activities available to the children in our prepared environment include, practical life (care of oneself and the environment), sensorial (learning through the senses), mathematics, language, culture, physical development and creative development. Additional activities, not listed are brought in as group activities.
Casa dei Bambini is a multi-age classroom, (this tends to be unique to Montessori education). The younger children look up to the older ones who in turn, act as positive role models.
Children learn to read through the Montessori curriculum. Sandpaper letters are used to help children learn the sight and the sound of the alphabet. This builds the foundation to writing letters and eventually leads to children producing their own compositions.

For the Infant Community, whom it is their first day, drop off time will be 7:45 to get comfortable in a quiet environment, helping the separation anxiety phase.

Please note, it is vital to keep the “good bye” at this point as short as possible, 15 seconds maximum. This is important, as more time passes the child becomes further anxious. Walk your child over to the teacher and say, “I will see you soon, bye.”

Please try to stay away from the child’s eye and keep your car hidden from view as this can increase your child’s anxiety.

For both Infant Community and Casa dei Bambini, the first day of school is less than 1 hour until your child has settled down. We will gradually prolong the time your child stays in school. We will observe your child and keep you updated. Eventually he/she may stay the full day.

Please refrain from carry your child to school if possible. Subconsciously your child knows they went to school on their own two feet and of their own free will.
